Kalathaki Bag is inspired from the traditional Greek “tirovoli” basket in which women used to
produce their cheese in mountain dairies.
Kalathaki project is made with the collaboration of three different artisans and techniques: the
basket weaving -a rear and old Greek weaving technique which tends to disappear- with the use
of juncus plant, the textile weaving and the passementerie of the Benaki Museum, made entirely
by hand from scratch!
Its implementation is not an easy task. From the collection of this bushy plant (where snakes
create their nests to give birth) to the special weaving technique.A specific time of year is
required to collect Juncus as well as working with the moon. It takes time, patience and love to
achieve an even and symmetrical result.
We are passionate about creating stunning, eco-friendly pieces that honors both the environment
and traditional craftsmanship.
